LRT-1 private operator Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) capped off September’s National Tourism Month by officially announcing a new route for its LRT-1 ikotMNL Heritage Transit Tour in partnership with Renacimiento Manila, a cultural organization that holds regular walking tours in the City of Manila.

The LRT-1 ikotMNL Heritage Transit Tour, launched in October 2023, aims to promote Manila’s rich cultural heritage through one of its most vital mass transit systems, the LRT-1. By combining LRT-1 rides with guided walking tours, participants can explore significant historical landmarks near the LRT-1 stations.

Following the success of the Central Route Tour, which has been regularly conducted since its launch, LRMC and Renacimiento Manila are now introducing the North Route Tour. This new route will take participants on a journey through select LRT-1 stations, including Central, Tayuman, Monumento, and Carriedo.

The participants will have the opportunity to discover the historical significance of the San Lazaro Race Track, explore nearby churches like Espiritu Santo Church and San Lazaro Chapel, and delve into the history of Grace Park Airfield and the Bonifacio Monument.

“We believe that the LRT-1 can serve as a gateway to exploring Manila’s rich history and culture. By expanding the tour up north with Renacimiento Manila, we can offer unique and informative walking tours that showcase not only the city’s heritage in a convenient and accessible way, but also further promoting a renewed appreciation for the role of public transport in our lives,” LRMC Head of Corporate Communications Jacqueline S. Gorospe said.

The LRT-1 ikotMNL Heritage Transit Tour North Route had its pilot run on 29 September 2024. The succeeding paid tours for the general public are scheduled on the following Sundays: October 20 and November 24. The tour fee is Php600, which includes a beep™ card with unlimited LRT-1 rides for the day, and exclusive tour souvenirs.

Interested tour participants may visit the Facebook page of Renacimiento Manila (@Renacimiento Manila) for further details and register through the link that can be found on the dedicated announcement for the said tours.
