Choral Fest, with vibrant melodies and harmonious voices, has been an essential part of PUP Bagong Himig Serenata. This annual celebration brings together choirs, music enthusiasts, and performers to create an enchanting symphony. As we reflect on the past, let’s look back at some of the most memorable themes and heartwarming moments in Choral Fests over the years. In the year 2020, the Choral Fest took on a special significance; it was the 50th anniversary since its founding as KASAPA (Kapatiran sa Pagtatanghal) on December 6, 1969. It was titled “Ginintuang Himig.” This milestone event brought together not only the current generation of performers but also the pioneers who had once been part of KASAPA. With ever-evolving themes over the years, the Choral Fest has witnessed a beautiful blend of tradition and innovation. Have you ever wondered how they come up with their themes? The officers take on this creative responsibility; they draw inspiration from trends, fads, and needs. Even during the pandemic, when physical gatherings were restricted, the Choral Fest adapted to an online setting. Online platforms became the new stage, and the theme evolved accordingly. From “BHS Tambayan” to “Kwentambayan,” and now, embracing the digital age with a theme inspired by Spotify entitled “Harmonify: Timeless Hits on Track,” each theme reflects the pulse of the moment. Every year, the Choral Fest leaves a lasting mark not only on the audience but also on themselves. Context matters—the world outside, the emotions within; in 2019, the PUP anthem resounded through the theater, sung by the entire assembly, including the founder. In the last Choral Fest, a flash mob moment of Sabel really stole the show to also commemorate Women’s Month. It was a moment of unity, of voices raised in unison. And this year? Well, that’s a secret they are yet to reveal, but rest assured, it will be remarkable for both participants and audience. Moving on to key elements for a successful Choral Fest, it begins with a network of supporters and sponsors; these two provide the necessary resources. Trust and participation—imagine a Chorale Fest without choirs—the very essence of the event. Choirs are the foundation of this very event. Building strong relationships with choirs is essential as well. Behind every seamless performance lies a dedicated working committee; this group, often unsung heroes, orchestrates the Choral Fest’s management. They handle registrations, schedules, rehearsals, and countless details. The committee members—like skilled musicians—play their parts; their collective effort ensures a smooth flow, allowing the event to resonate with everyone. The University plays a pivotal role; the University Center for Culture and the Arts (UCCA) department provides the venue, security, and administrative support. These unseen heroes ensure that the Choral Fest unfolds seamlessly. Their commitment to the arts allows choirs to shine on stage. It’s a partnership that often goes unnoticed but is indispensable to the success. As we celebrate a decade of harmonies, the Chorale Fest has become more than an event—it’s a tradition. Even if we all fade away, the tradition will stay, inspired by legendary choirs like the Madz et al. They envision a lineage of skilled leaders emerging within them. Beyond the campus, they dream of expanding across the Philippines, “Mula sa iisang himig para sa bayan”—fuels their ambition.

As they raise their voices, let us remember that the Choral Fest isn’t just about melodies; it’s about creating a legacy—a harmonious gift for generations to come.
