This Lungs Month, the spotlight is on tuberculosis (TB) and the critical importance of early detection in combating this deadly disease. At a recent media conference and turnover ceremony held at Olongapo City Hall, FUJIFILM Philippines, in collaboration with the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines and CHSI Philippines, donated an FDR Xair portable X-ray system to the local government of Olongapo City. This state-of-the-art device is set to revolutionize TB screening, especially in remote and underserved communities.

The Initiative: Strengthening TB Detection and Prevention

FUJIFILM Philippines, a global leader in imaging and healthcare technology, joined forces with the Japan Embassy in the Philippines and CHSI Philippines to address the urgent need for enhanced TB screening. The donation of the FDR Xair aims to bolster the screening, early detection, and eradication of TB, supporting the government’s ongoing efforts to combat the disease.

The FDR Xair portable X-ray system stands out for its advanced imaging technology, portability, and high image quality. These features enable healthcare professionals to perform rapid and accurate TB screenings in various settings, particularly in areas with limited healthcare infrastructure. By deploying these devices across the nation, FUJIFILM is closing healthcare access gaps and enhancing diagnostic accuracy.

Addressing a Critical Health Challenge

According to 2022 data from the Department of Health (DOH), TB claims approximately 106 Filipino lives daily. The introduction of FUJIFILM’s innovative solutions, such as the FDR Xair, aligns with global efforts to reach, cure, and prevent TB in the Philippines. This portable device is a game-changer in TB screening, offering reliable performance and ease of use, making it particularly effective in regions with limited healthcare resources.

In March 2023, FUJIFILM Philippines conducted its first Medical Mission and TB screening in Majayjay, Laguna, using their FDR nano and FDR Go Plus systems. The company plans to make this an annual program, continuing to utilize the FDR Xair to provide equitable and sustainable TB interventions. This year, FUJIFILM will offer free TB screening using the FDR Xair at the regular Makati Lingkod Bayan Caravan.

A Multi-Sectoral Approach to a TB-Free Future

FUJIFILM recognizes the importance of a coordinated, multi-sectoral approach to tackle the global challenge of TB. By partnering with governments, international organizations, civil society, and the private sector, FUJIFILM aims to build a healthier, TB-free future. With over 600,000 TB cases reported by the DOH as of December 31, 2023, the urgency for enhanced detection capabilities and coordinated efforts has never been greater. Despite the severity of TB, it remains curable with free medication available at TB DOTS clinics nationwide.

This Lungs Month, let’s join hands to raise awareness for tuberculosis and underscore the importance of early detection. The collective efforts of FUJIFILM Philippines, the Embassy of Japan in the Philippines, and CHSI Philippines mark a significant step towards eradicating TB in the country, ensuring a healthier future for all Filipinos.
