The need for responsive and resilient systems has never been more urgent in an era marked by uncertainty and disruption—from natural disasters and health crises to the socio-economic challenges brought by automation and artificial intelligence. The role of Industrial Engineers becomes ever more crucial at the center of this transformation to build stability amid chaos and drive recovery toward sustainable progress.
With the theme “RISE: Responsive Industrial Systems for a Sustainable Era”, the 17th Southern Tagalog Industrial Engineering Seminar (STIES XVII), hosted by the UPLB Industrial Engineering Students’ Organization (UPLB IESO), will continue its tradition of highlighting the critical role of Industrial Engineering in addressing contemporary challenges. STIES XVII highlights the role of Industrial Engineers in mitigating the effects of crises and designing systems that not only achieve efficiency but also uphold environmental and social responsibility.
In the spirit of continuous improvement, this latest installment of STIES introduces a reimagined program structure: (1) interactive morning workshops featuring topic-based workshops led by invited speakers who will provide focused discussions on practical Industrial Engineering concepts. Each discussion will be followed by an interactive activity or application exercise, allowing participants to directly apply the insights they gained from the talk, and (2) the traditional afternoon seminar will be retained in the afternoon, featuring speaker presentations and discussions that highlight current issues, innovations, and perspectives in Industrial Engineering.
Through these, STIES XVII continues its commitment to advancing Industrial Engineering education, fostering collaboration among students and professionals, and inspiring future engineers to design systems that respond to the needs of the present—without compromising the possibilities of the future.
