Art is for everyone not just the wealthy, but for people from all walks of life. This Women’s Month, that truth shines even brighter. I recently attended Sining Filipina 2026 at the L2 Atrium of The Podium, and I must say, there is something truly special about Filipino women artists sharing their stories through art.

Their works are full of heart and meaning you can see it, feel it, and experience every detail they want to convey. It’s no surprise that so many participated in this year’s theme, Babae Para sa Sining: Women Leading Change from Home to Nation.

Out of over 250 entries, 56 artworks made it to the semifinals, including a remarkable piece created by women in a correctional facility, showing that talent knows no boundaries. Several works were even pre-sold to support programs of the Zonta Club of Makati and Environs Foundation, Inc. (ZCME), which empower women across the Philippines.

The event was graced by Joaquin San Agustin, EVP for Marketing of SM Supermalls, Stella Cabalatungan of ZCME, Emmanuel Garibay, and Marla Garin-Alvarez of BDO, all emphasizing the importance of empowering women through creativity. Guests were welcomed with warm remarks recognizing the invaluable contributions of women to both art and society. As Joaquin San Agustin said, “Art is not decoration; it is direction.” His words perfectly capture the essence of the event: art not only reflects life but also drives social change.

Thanks to the support of SM Supermalls, BDO, and Airspeed, participation was made accessible to women from all backgrounds. Artworks from distant provinces were transported at no cost to the artists, ensuring that talent not opportunity determined participation. As Stella Cabalatungan shared, this inclusivity gives hope and encourages more women to develop their craft, with some advancing to solo exhibitions or pursuing professional artistic careers.

During the awarding ceremony and exhibit opening, the winners were proudly announced: first place went to Helping Hands by Marte Goyon from Manila; second place was awarded to Liwanag ni Maria by Mary Joy Go from Bulacan; and third place went to From Home Outward by Gerlynnia Aprille Galgo from Cebu.

The artworks are now on display for the public at the L2 Atrium of The Podium from March 12 to 19, 2026.

This exhibition, presented by BDO Unibank and SM Supermalls in partnership with the Zonta Club of Makati and Environs, showcases the creativity, talent, and voices of Filipino women artists.

Visitors can view and appreciate the selected works with ZCME assisting interested buyers, making this event not only a celebration of art but also a platform for empowerment and positive change.
