With the rising inflation prices, competitive job market, and volatile global economies, students and their parents have become increasingly selective in the college degree programs they want to pursue. Specializations that are professionally fulfilling and promise career longevity top their criteria for choosing a four or five-year course.

Mapúa University’s International Career and Exchange Programs director Patrick Acorin stated job market aggregator Indeed’s report that the top jobs internationally in 2024 are in healthcare, business, engineering, law, design, real estate, and medical sectors. In the Philippines, the best jobs are in the information technology (IT), marketing, finance, human resources, and healthcare sectors, as reported by job portal Foundit.

What makes these jobs attractive to both job seekers and incoming college students are the career opportunities they offer locally and internationally, lucrative salaries that range from $77,448 to $258,440 according to Indeed, and the invaluable opportunities they provide for socio-civic activities, making the career more rewarding.

Acorin explained, however, that while these jobs are trendy, they are not new or experimental careers that could fade in relevance after a brief period. The jobs mentioned have not only been steady, but revolutionary for industries all over the world for over a century. These fields continually innovate, evolve, and contribute to the growth of global economies, proving that they are future-ready.

To equip aspiring professionals, Mapúa offers various programs that can direct them to these career paths. Students can find these disciplines offered by the university’s School of Information Technology, such as programs like BS Data Science and BS Entertainment and Multimedia Computing (Game Development), and by its School of MME’s BS Energy Engineering program, as well as the programs under the E.T. Yuchengco School of Business, School of Health Sciences, School of Nursing, and School of Medicine from the Mapúa-Arizona State University (ASU) collaboration.

“Mapúa ensures that learners gain academic and career advantages from the very beginning of their college journey by offering always-updated, industry-aligned curricula that are taught by industry experts/veterans,” Acorin stated.

On top of the curricula, students are exposed to rigorous training and real-world experiences through internships, international visits, and program-specific activities. They are also given numerous opportunities to build their professional networks and secure global employment opportunities even before they graduate.

Those enrolled in Mapúa-ASU programs can pursue internationally designed and vetted career pathways in business and healthcare that can position them towards become global industry leaders.

The university’s microcredentialing programs done in partnership with Coursera further empower students to upskill and master specialist tracks that can boost their professional skills.

“Students who want to pursue any of these top careers should choose a university that will partner with them as they strive to reach their academic and professional pursuits. At Mapúa, our outcomes-based learning ensures that our graduates are not only technically competent in their fields but have a thirst for continuous learning and improvement,” said Acorin.
